Luxury villa in Val d'Orcia Tuscany
This luxury Tuscan villa sleeps up to 8 and has a saline pool (12 x 6m, heating at extra cost). Situated in the Val d'Orcia national park in the Province of Siena between Pienza, Montepulciano and Monticchiello, it is surrounded by landscaped gardens in 75 acres (30 hectares) of unspoilt peaceful, woodland, olive groves and farmland. Originally an old Tuscan farmhouse, now meticulously restored, it has been designated as an Historical and Artistic Asset (Beni Storico Artistico) by the town hall (Comune). It provides spacious accommodation as a family home in an outstandingly beautiful part of Tuscany. Its dramatic position on a south facing hillside has spectacular views of Monte Amiata and the Val d'Orcia park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Tuscan villa is finished to a very high standard while preserving its simplicity with hand-made terracotta tiled floors, pale washed chestnut ceiling beams and antique furniture creating light and airy spaces. It has a super large kitchen, under-floor heating and cooling systems (available at extra cost) and well-appointed bathrooms with excellent showers and lighting. The windows have integral insect screens. Meals can be enjoyed outside in delightful settings including two courtyards and there are lots of quiet places to sit and read. The pool has an electric cover and is surrounded by travertine stone paving with generous room for teak sun beds and sunshades. There is plenty of flat space for games such as badminton and table tennis. Solar panels heat the domestic hot water, and solar electric panels generate up to 5 Kw of electricity. The pool can be heated by gas boilers at extra cost. Cooking services are available from excellent local chefs. Two cats, Thelma and Louise, live in the grounds outside the house. They are not allowed in the house and are looked after by our housekeeper.
Situated in the classic Val d'Orcia rolling hills of southern Tuscany, Villa Luisa is perfectly positioned for visits to Siena, Florence, the wine areas of Montalcino, Montepulciano and Chianti, and the thermal baths of Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Filippo. Rome is 1.5 hours by fast train from Chiusi (40 minutes drive), or 135 minutes driving from the house. Orvieto and Perugia are about 75 minutes drive. Wine lovers can easily visit the producers of Brunello, Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the Super-Tuscans. Not surprisingly, the breathtakingly beautiful Val d'Orcia has been the setting for many films. The English Patient was set in Pienza and at the Monastery of Sant' Anna in Camprena, Romeo and Juliet was filmed in Pienza, scenes from Gladiator feature the Pienza countryside, and Under the Tuscan Sun was filmed in Montepulciano.
